ISRO's Free AI and ML Online Course A Must-Attend Event from August 19-23

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is set to offer a free 5-day online course aimed at equipping scholars with essential skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The course, scheduled from August 19 to 23, 2024, is part of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) outreach program, which strives to foster innovation within the space sector and beyond.

Course Overview

Launched in 2007, the IIRS outreach program has grown to encompass over 3,500 network institutes, including universities, government departments, research institutes, and NGOs. This program has been instrumental in promoting capacity building in geospatial technology and its applications.

Target Audience

This free ISRO course is designed for professionals, scholars, and researchers in fields such as civil engineering, computer science, and geoinformatics. It encourages those interested in exploring AI, ML, and deep learning (DL) for geospatial applications to apply.

Course Content

The following broad topics will be covered in the ISRO course:

  • Introduction to AI/ML and DL
  • Methods in Machine Learning: Supervised, Unsupervised, and Reinforcement
  • Deep Learning Concepts: CNN, RNN, R-CNN, Faster R-CNN, SSD, YOLO, and their Applications
  • Spaceborne Lidar Systems
  • Machine Learning through Google Earth Engine
  • Python for Machine/Deep Learning Models

Participants will receive lecture slides, video-recorded lectures, open-source software, and demonstration handouts through the e-class platform.

Course Schedule

Online lectures for this ISRO course will be held daily from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM as per the following schedule:

  • August 19: Introduction to AI/ML and DL by Dr. Poonam Seth Tiwari
  • August 20: Methods in Machine Learning: Supervised, Unsupervised, and Reinforcement by Dr. Hina Pande
  • August 21: Deep Learning Concepts: CNN, RNN, R-CNN, Faster R-CNN, SSD, YOLO, etc., and their Applications by Dr. Poonam Seth Tiwari
  • August 22: Machine Learning Through Google Earth Engine by Dr. Kamal Pandey
  • August 23: Python for Machine/Deep Learning Models by Ravi Bhandari

Course updates and other details will be available on IIRS website.

How to Apply

Participants can register for this ISRO course and check their application status here. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. For individual enrollments, approval is automatic, and participants will receive login credentials for ISRO LMS.

Participants can also register through nodal centers, with approval from the head of the nodal center. If the application is pending approval, participants should contact their respective nodal center head. For institutional participation, organizations must identify a head to register their institute as a nodal center.

Certificate Award

Scholars will receive a ‘Course Participation Certificate’ upon completing the course with a minimum attendance of 70%. This certificate will be available for download on the ISRO Learning Management System (LMS).

This initiative by ISRO presents an excellent opportunity for individuals to enhance their AI skills and contribute to India’s growing space sector. Don’t miss this chance to advance your knowledge and capabilities in artificial intelligence and machine learning.
